Humanity’s very-recent advances in Medicine, Science, the Internet—and the bewildering array of consumer gewgaws and doo-dads suddenly available—seem to point to an amazing future ahead. We seem to be looking at a Brave New World, with all the advantages and few of the suffocating societal disadvantages of Aldous Huxley’s dark vision. Yes, barring a climate-changing planetary-melt down or an asteroid-strike, our future looks to be dazzling—from a material standpoint. But will it be a brave new world, or just a new-ish world?
